Chile

The GlobalMedic team continued its work in the Lebu, Concepcion and Constitution areas over the past two days. In total, 13 water purification units have been installed. These water purification units have been donated to local partners who have been trained on the proper operation, maintenance, and distribution methods for potable water. In addition, GlobalMedic has also donated 150,000 Aquatab water purification tablets to local partner ADRA Chile. All water units will remain operational for at least one month, or until such time when access to clean drinking water is restored. Our locally trained partners will continue the work that GlobalMedic has begun in Chile, providing more than 13,000 people daily with clean drinking water.

GlobalMedic would like to thank our partner ADRA Chile for all their assistance in making our mission in Chile a great success.

2 members of GlobalMedic’s Rapid Response Team are on the ground in Chile delivering desperately needed water purification units to provide potable water to earthquake victims.  The team is carrying 13 portable water purification units capable of producing over 65000 litres of potable water a day.  Currently the team is working in the areas of Constitution and Pellines, some of the hardest hit by the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami. The team installed 3 Trekker water purification units in local hospitals and in a remote village where people had come from their homes in the main town and were staying in the mountains for fear of subsequent aftershocks. The team will travel tomorrow to the city of Concepcion, the largest city affected by the earthquake.

The team is working alongside our partners from ADRA Chile. ADRA is part of the Chilean government’s response team to natural disasters.  Together they are travelling to Concepcion where the majority of rioting has occurred.  The team will liaise with local military officials and the local water company to receive information on the areas in need of clean water.
